About the e-portfolio

With the e-portfolio it makes me feel that I have something more than a resume. Here people can view my educational goals and my class work. They can see how I have improved my writing and see that I have tried to better my probability at getting my employment or an internship. I believe my critical thinking has improved a bit since making my own e-portfolio because it is personal without being private. It’s not a social site but a significant portfolio that helps me to figure what I want, what I need and what I may have and get? It is about putting myself in better positions then I would if I were going to the place knowing that they know about me. Yes it is digital, but it is better than me going to a place and becoming nervous. If I get an interview then this helps me know what I necessitate for a profession. But I also understand why it is important. It helps others understand who you are and what you are about? It gives employers an idea and they can find if you are what th

*Final Reflection*

I met with people from different nationalities they were very diverse. During the few weeks that we had in the CEP121 course we got to learn about each and every student at least a bit. Like their name, major, and why they were so interested in being what they wanted to do. Many were already established into a career path and a few were still unsure but like everyone else we wanted to be successful and have good job opportunities. From this course, I was able to understand more about my career and I found myself doing some research of my own. I found that some of the activities that we did were not just to prepare us for the internship but to be aware that it is not as simple as it looks. It was to practice/organize ourselves for the future. Some activities that we did in class were helpful like the lingering thoughts because we don’t really have time to put our thoughts into paper because some work and others go to school. Some have families and work with school and I feel that,

Life Skills!

Life skill are important to have in any field goal that one is going to. There are so many different life skills that one can learn so here are a few. These skills have every thing to do with your life whether its time management, problem solving, communication, living financial situations, and family as well. It’s also to be able to understand challenges, different opportunities and obstacles in order to shape a better and stronger person. Trying to stay focused in differ situations is so you do not get distracted and being capable of dealing with them. Its about the hidden talents that one finds out to do when they start a job opportunity. It is when you know that are developing new skills; to be intelligent, productive, hardworking. Its about earning a good living and being able to provide enough food, protection, clothing, education, and medical care. Time has everything to do with the way you work and the way you function. Being able to get to work on time and doing other thin

Lingering/Class Work

When we worked in groups during the class, we got to talk about our lingering thoughts. We spoke of work and wanting to have a job after we each graduate. We knew that this was making us stress over employment and having benefits but then we started giving each other thoughts and advice and made each other felt a bit more at ease because though we have done research we still need to something to think about. After a few minutes we were started talking about what we were going to do for our finale on the last day of this CEP121 course. The professor had told us that he had in his previous class, students who did a TV segment like the love connection. We as a group were thinking, what could we do that could make every one laugh and enjoy to what we did? We were coming up with so many different ideas that they seemed far fetched and too difficult because we had too little time.

In Groups

The other day when we worked in groups it was with different people but similar goals. We spoke about our life skills, cover letters, and about our resumes. We got to know each other a little bit more. We mentioned that we wanted to work with people with different backgrounds and different accomplishments in life. It was nice talking to them because it was very laid back and we are hoping for good job opportunities in the future. Each one explained our major and why we wanted to do what we were studying for. We spoke about our love for music, sports, cars, pervious jobs, and helping others. We got to discussing our pervious occupations and what had happened? We spoke of experiences and how we could pass this course with having a busy life after school. Of course we all want to succeed in life because that is the point why we are going the extra effort in school. We were laughing and talking about how we were all connected with our group members. We did not know at fir

Successful person Interview

I found a few people that I felt were successful. I spoke to one of my brothers best friends. His name is Christopher, and he lives in Brooklyn, New York. He is the only child in his family and his parents are divorced but they maintain a mutual friendship. He works to help his mother with some bills. He works in an office building in Manhattan with computers because he graduated from computer science. But he also has a part time job in a game store. He loves graphics and all that tech stuff which I find very difficult and amusing at the same time. He told me that one thing “I will love is my job because of the effort that I’ve put into and it’s something that I have always wanted to accomplish by myself”. At first I didn’t get it but he explained that it is something that he did on his own and his parents had a big part because it always affected him and for once he did something for himself. It wasn’t about pleasing his parents but about him. Without having a positive out view yo

Resume Tips!

1. Never put your age into your resume. Nothing that will state your birth, social security, or any information that may be capable of some taking your identity. Though some people ask for your address that may be alright in some cases. 2. Also use a format that can be easily read by those who are interviewing you. You don’t want them asking you what this or that means in your resume if it out of order. Use a font size of 10 to 12 for better neatness and make sure that your resume is not more than two pages. 3. Do not become a liar. If you have something outrageous just know that it might not help you unless you know what you are doing. Example: if you worked at some place and you just did faxing and telephone calls don’t say you were an assistant and you ran errands. Make sure not to go overbroad. 4. Use position description like including job titles, any qualifications, any knowledge, or skills that you have been put in and know how to handle. 5. W

Some skills

Some successful life skills are talents that come to people naturally. Skills like cleaning, reading, seeing and problem solving. The way people manage their time is important. Time has everything to do with the job or career that you choose to do. Its about how long is it going to take for you to accomplish a goal or learning new abilities. Helping others is a life skill like training people to use a computer or teaching them a new program. Other skills are like managing your money, making new friends or co-workers and keeping you’re them. Learning to fix things taking calculations on how things should go and be done. What is safe and good for people to do/use. It is also about learning new skills that will better your speech, performance and mentally. You also may want to have skills in which you can contribute to your community because you may never know when you may need them depending what they are. Managing your money is very imperative. You need to have a list like a check book

First Day

On the first day of our CEP course I was already in a bad mood. I had to register for a another course that was mandatory for this class. I did not know and I had to rush before they would close the offices in the c-building. I was late for my Fundamentals of Professional Advancement course. The professor was cool though he explained to us what this course was about and what we should expect to do while in CEP. Professor William Beaufort told us to get up and sit in a round circle. Then he told us this was one activities that he had for us before class was over. We had to say our name, our major and career motivation/ goals. Most of my class mates knew what they wanted to do and others wanted a better job that paid better. Others had work experience and wanted to become more professional by coming back to school pursuing their college degree. Myself I knew what I wanted to be now that I had something that I knew I could improve. I knew that I wanted to work with children

Activity 2.1

I want to be a mentor for many people to gain knowledge of what Developmental disability is? It is not just about children who are mentally challenged but as well as different kinds of disabilities like learning, mobility, self-care, self direction. This happens affects them daily and the way they function. Ten years from now I see myself teaching children and moving up to adolescents and teens. Maybe I will teach in New York still and have other people there teaching. The people around me are people who are dedicated and have the patience and the ability to want to teach the less fortunate. I want to have a recognitions over others, and contribute to the state of their condition. The rewards that I would receive is the happiness and the smile on the children’s face. Just for them to know, that I care about them and that I find this satisfying. I see people around having a positive out look on life for these children. I see myself successful even though its taking time. I love tea

Chapters 2 and 3.

Chapter two and three they both are more on your career satisfaction, Personal Development, and personality types. When you pick a career you have to pleased with your choice because then you will never be satisfied, you want a occupation that is about yourself like your personality. It is about the requirement tat are set for a specific job. I feel in chapter two though it was about values and about our own personal identities and in chapter three it was about skills in personal identity. In chapter three, it about the abilities that one has acquired. Also the ability, to learn new skills to bettering their options. In addition, you have to understand if what fits best in your workplace and those that work around you as well. When I first started at LaGuardia I was going to become a Spanish teacher because I knew that it was a language that I could speak, understand, read, and write. But, before that I wanted to study something with business because I was in a technical school. There

Career Dilemma

There are five different kinds of components that one may need in order to stay in a good career path. These are the environment, income, hiring outlook, psychical demands, and stress. The environment is how one responds in areas of traveling, confinement, and the amount of hours that they work. How does one get to their work place and is it a problem for them. Depending on the job that you have it might take you long hours to get to occupation. You have to understand as well that when you get to your work place does it feel like you are trapped or do you feel that you have breathing space. You don’t want to feel uncomfortable in the place that you spend so much time in. How about the stress level rising? Is work your stress? This can lead one to end up with high blood pressure in the future. This may lead to problems mentally and psychically. It can also cause problems for your job. Everyone wants to have a superior career in which they can make currency especially for those who take

Welcome

Whoopie Do! Today we did our 1st new blog for our CEP 121. class. Hopefully the professor does not give us too much homework because this is the only class that I've got. This is the beginning of our new class and I can wait to meet people. This class is very diverse and its interesting because I’m not used to having a class like this. This class is about a preparation for our career and future. Not just that but to help us develop a plan and idea. It is a preparation for us to learn and keep for life. I hope that this class will help me develop new skills and benefit me for my career because I feel this class will be good but will also be straight up.
