LIB 200- Blog # 8

I feel that the responsibilities of a scientist are to make sure that they are able to control their work and know that there will not be an outbreak. It is to secure the existence of humanity. The scientific progress of having something go wrong is always a possibility. The reason for it is to check if there is opportunity of something new whether its life, or disease. It is the likelihood of knowing if something can be done to protect man kind or go against it. Science has unintended consequences. Take Futurama exhibit in the World’s Fair for instance. It was to benefit the American people after the war. It was supposed to improve lives and technology by having automobiles, superhighways, and a suburbia. The perfect world, a utopia but in fact it that would lead to global warming. Or take artificial intelligence for instance. Scientist built something that can completely one day take over humanity. One example of that is going online, making a profile and then entering a captcha after almost being done with the profile or password. This is to ensure that we are not robots. Today in movies we see robots coming to life. Little robots that walk, robots that have facial expressions, robots that talk (jeopardy). It is strange to see that technology has advanced so much in the past decades and it continues to in front of the eyes of scientist. I am all for science because that’s how I know to get around using technology that is based on science, I don’t think I would know how to live without it and getting closer to the complexity of it.
